At the begining, the a-pipes would be made of an electronic board that fits into a regular bagpipes chanter.
Now, thanks to miniaturization techniques, a new single circuit can embedd every a-pipes features, including optional modules (radio, bluetooth).
Powered by a LIPO battery rechargeabl...
The remote software now can redirect a-pipes or a-box played notes to one MIDI out port.
The MIDI out port can be a virtual port provided by a freeware like "loopMIDI", "MIDI yoke" or "LoopBee1". In such case any MIDI software, on the same computer, can listen to this port and play the sounds....
Since the end of December 2018, a new technology has been introduced: chanter's body is made of an hollow 3D printed plastic envelope in which armed resin is cast.
The plastic chanter becomes as rigid as a polypenco chanter, very solid and rather heavy.
The width of the battery door is reduced....
The a-box : a wireless audio & MIDI repeater
Remotely play over Bluetooth, a-pipes can do that, but a PC+Bluetooth is needed and some operations are needed for establishing the connection.
Its great, but could be better.
There are also some limitations due to Bluetooth itself :
- Latency t...
I have presented the a-pipes to the public during Lorient Interceltic Festival 2016, on 7th, 8th and 9th of august.
A lot of pipers have tested the instrument.
Fred Morrison played the a-pipes in bagpipes mode, then in smallpipe mode ; his verdict : "super !"
Success !!! a brand new circuit has been designed then assembled, built for the new technologies. The result is amazing, even perfect. The device works in any condition, including deepest darkness. Battery draw has been optimized. Bluetooth is ok and can now be disabled.
Battery draw reaches 49 m...
On 2016 january the 1st, this prototype named "V0", fully functionnal for inside playing, is frozen as is : it will no more envolve and will never be duplicated. I has proved the project's faisability, the great sound quality, the embelishments fluidity, but doesn't work outside, neither in the dark...
Experiments during autumn of 2015 have led the project to evolve.
The concept of the electronic circuit slipped inside a real chanter has been abandoned, for different reasons :
- it may damage the chanter,
- electronic board may be damaged after severall insertions/removal cycles,
- beginners fre...
You are reading these lines because you are insterested in the project's making off.
I have been using the technopipes for 8 years and have been happy of it, especially when I really knew playing the bagpipes.
This instrument has the advantage of well highlighting imperfect fingering noises, but...
